Empty Chair

Sticky notes on
the refrigerator
lists groceries
no longer needed,
dog-eared books
stacked up on
the wooden desk,
forever unfinished,
the dining table,
dinner prepared,
her favorite,
getting cold,
rainy night,
tire tracks off
the highway,
a car flipped over.
Sitting across
from an empty chair,
waiting for his wife
who would never return.
